Why did you choose NuCanoe?
I first looked into a NuCanoe after reading an article in Field & Stream. After a couple of years of looking and not acting, I purchased a solo canoe with the idea I could fish by myself or take my daughter with me. After fishing from it for a year, I sold it because I never felt comfortable with the stability. I looked into a sit on top kayak but in the back of my mind I wanted something I could take my daughter in. This lead me back to the NuCanoe. The main reasons I purchased a NuCanoe are:
1. Stability
2. The option of fishing solo or with my daughter or wife.
3. The ability to get back in the NuCanoe from the water and not having to swim back to shore.
4. Being able to stand to fish.
5. Being able to use it in winter to hunt and fish.

Kid-Tested
The stability is great! I have no worries about taking a squirming 4 year old out with me.

Nu Beats Old
I started off solo fishing in a solo canoe after growing up fishing from a bass boat. I am not the most nimble guy, clumsy may describe me well. I was fine after I got into the canoe but getting in was always an adventure and I did flip in front of folks which was quite funny for everyone besides myself. The first time I got in the NuCanoe I could not believe how comfortable I felt. I could turn around, hang my feet over the side, and I even tried standing up. I am 6′ 5″ 250 lbs. I stood up which was great until I realized I did not grab my paddle while standing. It is February, the water is too cold to want to take a dip, and I’m floating down river. I had to bend down, grab the paddle, and paddle back up to shore…..which all went off without me taking a swim.

Easy Access & Lots of Options
I love the option of being able to get into backwaters and adding a trolling motor to get upstream when I don’t feel like paddling. The interchangeable seats make it easy to configure my NuCanoe for the activities of the day.

Connecting & Sharing
I start a blog, Cumberland River Fishing, to document my experiences fishing from my NuCanoe. It’s been great to connect with other river anglers through the blog and via the RiverBassin.com site. I plan to fish in as many River Bassin’ Tournament Trail events as possible this year. I hope to see you out there!
